The History Of LDS In Formula One Racing

by Brain Tyler

The History of LDS in Formula One Racing, celebrates and details the work of the iconic Doug Serrurier. It is, according to Brian, the first book solely devoted to a South African manufactured car and the history of every chassis manufactured from 1961 to the present day.

The result of an intensive three-year research project, the book focuses on the ten LDS cars constructed by Doug from 1961 to 1964 and raced against the likes of Stirling Moss, Jim Clark and Graham Hill. Four of the cars raced in the World Championship Series and all the others participated in various international and local events with considerable success. Five of the cars are still alive and competing in Historing Racing in South Africa and even Europe.

The paperback book consists of 126 pages and includes more than 60 photographs. More importantly, there are also results tables detailing the pedigree of every LDS chassis up to 1969. The book has a foreword by none other than Sir Jack Brabham and local historian Robert Young contributed a chapter on Doug Serrurier.
